Dublin CODING School is delighted to introduce Jamie Byrne, our new Lecturer in Full-Stack Web Development. Jamie is a Full-Stack Web Developer at Medserv. We asked Jamie about his career so far and his advice for aspiring Web Developers:

What first attracted you to Web Development?

I always liked programming. I think it was a mixture of this and a curiosity about how the internet works that first attracted me.

What does a Web Developer’s day look like in your company?

We maintain and build upon a large codebase. This means developing new features but also troubleshooting, modifying, and improving the existing system. Every day varies hugely which is great. I will typically check my emails and our ticket system to get an idea of what is going on and prioritise my day from there.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in Web Development?

When I meet new developers, I always look for their attitude to learning. The web development world contains more information than any human can ever know, the trick is to stay enthusiastic and just keep diving into each small task. They all add up. It may sound daunting, but it is actually very rewarding to learn something new.

Why is Web Development so important in business today?

More business is getting carried out online all the time. The internet is easier for customers to access than ever before, and people are getting more and more used to using the web as a tool for business. Good Web Development allows business to take advantage of the power of the internet.
