Cyber Security

We asked Aiga about her career so far and her advice for someone considering a career in Cyber Security:

  • What first attracted you to Cyber Security?

Cyber Security is the art of protecting data. As I also had a master’s in musicology science and have experience in IT, this mixture of my research’s being just perfectly fitted in this field. I would say that Cyber Security for me was a match at first sight.

  • What does your current working day look like?

I am starting the work day at 9 AM by checking e-mails and messages from colleagues. Then setting up all tools and equipment I’ll need for current-day testing tasks, following the standards, and testing applications to find out vulnerabilities. To stay focused and feel comfortable all day long at the screens, every 20 minutes I take a 30-second break to move a bit and relax my eyes.

  • What advice would you give to someone considering a career in Cyber Security?

Maybe the best time to start was 10 years ago, but the second best – is today! Just be brave and explore all paths that Cyber Security has – I am sure that you will find something that engages you the most. If you have patience, willpower, braveness, and persistence then everything is possible. Cyber Security is a challenging but extremely exciting field to belong to. And what can be even more attractive than guarding the most valuable asset in the world – the data.

  • Why is Cyber Security so crucial in business today?

With the increasing adoption of the online-business and personal communication on the internet, securing sensitive information such as credit card details, PINs, bank account numbers, and private messages is becoming increasingly important. The huge amount of cyber attacks also show that keeping your data safe is a must-have for every organization. Because of all that Cyber Security specialists becoming an in-demand profession.
